[SATB a cappella for moderate (M) and advanced (A) levels]
Since I am not a native Yiddish speaker, I can identify with the audience that wants to make a connection to the music but doesn’t understand the words. In my arrangements, I try to illuminate the text by using English translations ― but only if and when they contribute to the flow of the song ― and by employing musical means that support the structure of the poetry and the meaning of the lyric to convey a sense of the text even to people who don’t speak Yiddish. Many of these arrangements are published by Carl Fischer [CF], Transcontinental Music [TM], or ECS Publishing [ECS].
